Sorry, but the contents in English in this website are still limited.
Purposes of the website: The purposes of the website are to disseminate soft interventions in househoulds, which can be conducted in the households to reduce municipal wastewater pollutant discharge especially in the Yamato-gawa River Basin. In the Yamato-gawa River Basin, the Social Experiment Program of the soft interventions has been conducted since 2005. There are information in Japanese on the Yamato-gawa River Office website.

Please find other information on soft interventions in households and Social Experiment Program, mostly in Japanese, from the LINKS below.

07 Apr 2012: A paper titled "Quantitative evaluation of effects of the soft interventions or cleaner production in households and the hard interventions: A Social Experiment Programme in a large river basin in Japan" has been published in Ecological Indicators. (on line)

24 May 2011: I have prepared a comparison graph of BOD concentration in the Yamato-gawa River. This time, I have prepared graphs to compare BOD load during the same period, from December to February in these three years. Among BOD load in December, January and February, that in February was largest in most monitoring point in this winter season, which was same in the last year winter season, however, that in January was largest in the second last winter season.

The comparison was conducted for the monitoring points in Nara and Osaka Prefectures, respectively. BOD load increase in February was found at the monitoring points in Nara Prefecture, in the upper sections of the river. On the contrary, BOD load at the monitoring points in Osaka Prefecture, in the lower sections of the river, did not increase in February in this winter season. What are the reasons for these BOD concentration and BOD load changes? It may be interesting to think about the reasons based on the publicised water quality data and the C Project documents and information.

7 April 2011: This year, the Social Experiment Programme in the Yamato-gawa Rive Basin was conducted in the duration of one-month, a whole February, 2011. The results of the Social Experiment Programme has not yet disseminated in the press release list. It may take time for summarising the results. I have carried out simple analysis using water quality monitoring data disseminated by the Yamato-gawa River Office, and prepared a graph of BOD concentration from December to February in these three years. The BOD concentration data were the results of one-time monitoring data in a month and affected by the flow rates at that time. BOD concentration deterioration was found at many monitoring points in February, 2011. The BOD deterioration may be affected by the smaller flow rate at the monitoring date. We should wait for a while for the total results of the event of the Social Experiment Programme this year.

27 Feb 2011: Errors in the older version of EAH books of municipal wastewater are corrected. The corrected new version EAH books of municipal wastewater are uploaded for the four kind of wastewater treatment systems, namely WWTPs, Combined johkasou, Simple johkasou and Night soil treatment system. The corrections are based on the modification of Table 5 of the paper published in the Journal of Hydrology during the peer-review and re-submission processes.

27 Feb 2011: The website has been no change for a while. The event period in the Social Experiment Program in 2011 is February, one month, which is longer than that in the last year, one week! It is 27 Feb and we have only two more days this year.

I have prepared some diary in the blog of EAH books of municipal wastewater. The link to the blog is included in the links list.

The paper was at last accepted for the Journal of Hydrology.

The website of the journal is under maintenance today. It is announced until this morning.
People in the academic, universities and research institutes can be accessed to the full-text pdf file. Ordinary people can access to the abstract, and can get the full-text pdf file with a payment of US$ 40.00.

What you can do in this website? You can obtain the following information:

  • Explanation on what is EAH book of municipal wastewater.: The phrase 'EAH books' is direct translation of 'Kankyo Kakei-bo' in Japanese. 'Kankyo Kakei-bo' is a very popular term in Japan, however, not popular in the world.
  • Download the EAH books of municipal wastewater and how to use them (in Japanese): You can download the EAH books of municipal wastewater by sub-river basin and by municipal wastewater treatment method. The EAH books are Microsoft excel files.
  • Explanation of methods to prepare the EAH books of municipal wastewater: You can find explanations to prepare the EAH books of municipal wastewater.
  • About the sub-river basin number #: You will need the sub-river basin number to calculate pollutant discharge per capita flowing into water body or the Osaka Bay (PLCwb). For the EAH books which can be downloaded in this website, the Yamato-gawa River Basin is divided into seven sub-rive basins which are corresponding to the seven monitoring point in the main Yamato-gawa River.
  • Polutant load flowing into the Osaka Bay: You can find the explanation on pollutant load per capita flowing into the Osaka Bay (PLCwb).
  • References and other materials: You can find references and other information related to EAH books of municipal wastewater, C-Project in the Yamato-gawa River Basin, and pollutant discharge per capita (PDC) and so on.
  • Please send your opinions about EAH books of municipal wastewater: EAH books of municipal wastewater are not proliferated until now comparing to the EAH book of carbon dioxide (CO2). For improvement of the EAH books of municipal wastewater, please feel free to send messages and opinions on the EAH books of municipal wastewater. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. You can send e-mail to the address below.

11 Sep 2010: How are you doing in these days? Infoseek free web-site service will be terminated at the end of October. I may find other web-site service :).

      Corrections of errors
27 Feb 2011: Corrections of the EAH books of municipal wastewater has been completed and the new versions are uploaded. The corrections are based on the Table 5 modification in the paper published in the Journal of Hydrology. The older version EAH books are available to estimate pollutant discharge per capita (PDC), however, estimation of pollutant load per capita flowing into water body or the Osaka Bay (PLCwb) can be estimated by the new version EAH books of municipal wastewater.

    • 30 Mar 2010: Errors have been found in the EAH books of municipal wastewater uploaded in this website. You can calculate pollutant discharge reduction amounts and reduction amounts of pollutant load flowing into the Osaka Bay, however, errors have been found in the total pollutant discharges by sub-river basin and by wastewater treatment method. The access counter shows 153 today. I wish there are not so adverse effects, however, I must appology for the mistake to people who have already used the EAH books of municipal wastewater. A scientific paper is under peer-review. Therefore, corrections will be conducted after the publication of the paper. Please free to contact me if you have any inquiry
    • 26 Mar 2010: There was error in Table 1 Pollutant load flowing into the Osaka Bay, total population. The error is corrected.
    • 22 Jan 2010: The EAH book of municipal wastewater for people using centralised wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) was uploaded prior to those for people using other wastewater treatment systems. Errors were found in the EAH for WWTPs. The file is now corrected on 22 Jan 2010.
